Your furnace may be getting older, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s ready to be replaced.

Over years of operation, dust and debris accumulate inside a furnace. Blower wheels become dirty. Electrical components age. Burners collect buildup. Motors become less efficient, and critical components can begin showing signs of wear.

A standard furnace tune-up can identify many problems—but sometimes an older system needs more.

That’s why Paul’s Heating & Air Conditioning created the Furnace Restore Package.

The Paul’s Furnace Restore Package goes far beyond routine furnace maintenance. We thoroughly inspect, clean, test, and upgrade key components of your existing furnace with the goal of improving its cleanliness, operation, airflow, safety, reliability, and efficiency.

Before you assume it’s time for a new furnace, find out if your current system is a candidate for Furnace Restore.

What Is Paul’s Furnace Restore?

Think of Furnace Restore as a deep restoration service for an aging furnace.

Instead of simply inspecting the equipment and performing basic maintenance, our technicians get deeper into the system.

We remove years of accumulated dirt and debris. We remove and clean components that aren’t typically addressed during routine maintenance. We perform extensive electrical and safety testing. We inspect the heat exchanger. And on qualifying systems, we replace older blower-motor and ignition technology with modern upgraded components.

The result?

A cleaner, thoroughly evaluated and professionally serviced furnace that’s better prepared for the heating season ahead.

What’s Included in the Furnace Restore Package?

Inspect & Deep Clean

Complete Furnace & Component Inspection

Every Furnace Restore begins with a detailed visual inspection of the furnace cabinet and its internal components.

Our technicians look for signs of component fatigue, motor oil leakage, corrosion, rust, damaged wiring, excessive buildup, and other visible indications of deterioration.

We also inspect the furnace’s circuit board, including a visual examination of resistors, connections, and solder joints for signs of overheating, deterioration, or damage.

The objective is simple: find potential problems before they become bigger problems.

Deep Furnace Cabinet Cleaning

Open an older furnace that hasn’t been thoroughly cleaned in years and you may be surprised by what’s inside.

Dust, dirt, pet hair, insulation particles, and other debris can gradually accumulate within the furnace cabinet.

Paul’s technicians thoroughly vacuum the furnace cabinet and use compressed air where appropriate to remove accumulated debris from areas that typically aren’t addressed during everyday homeowner maintenance.

Keeping internal components clean is about more than appearance. Excessive dirt and debris can interfere with equipment operation and contribute to unnecessary wear.

Blower Assembly Removal & Deep Cleaning

Your furnace’s blower is responsible for moving conditioned air throughout your home—and years of operation can leave the blower wheel coated with dirt.

Even relatively small amounts of buildup on blower blades can negatively affect their ability to move air efficiently.

That’s why Furnace Restore doesn’t stop at vacuuming around the blower. We remove the blower assembly from the furnace for a thorough cleaning.

The blower wheel and housing are cleaned using professional cleaning methods to remove stubborn buildup from the wheel blades and surrounding assembly.

Once clean, the blower is reinstalled and evaluated as part of the complete system test.

Burner Removal & Deep Cleaning

Your furnace burners need the proper combination of fuel, airflow, and ignition to operate correctly.

Over years of operation, burners can accumulate dirt, rust, and other debris. Excessive buildup can interfere with proper ignition and flame characteristics.

In more serious situations, combustion problems can contribute to flame rollout—a potentially dangerous condition where flame moves outside its intended combustion area.

Rather than simply brushing the accessible surface, Paul’s removes the burners for a thorough cleaning using appropriate professional cleaning methods.

The burners are then reinstalled and their operation evaluated when the furnace is fired.

Comprehensive Safety Testing

Complete Furnace Electrical Testing

Your furnace relies on multiple electrical components and safety controls to operate correctly.

As part of Furnace Restore, Paul’s performs comprehensive electrical testing of applicable switches, controls, wiring, and safety devices.

We look for abnormalities and verify proper operation so potential electrical and safety concerns can be identified before the system is put through another heating season.

Heat Exchanger Camera Inspection

The heat exchanger is one of the most important components inside a gas furnace. It separates the furnace’s combustion process from the air circulating through your home. As equipment ages, heat exchangers can deteriorate, corrode, or develop defects.

That’s why heat exchanger inspection is a critical part of Paul’s Furnace Restore Package.

Our technicians use specialized inspection cameras to examine accessible areas of the heat exchanger for visible signs of deterioration, damage, or cracking.

If we identify a potential problem, we’ll explain what we found and discuss the appropriate next steps with you.

Carbon Monoxide Testing

We don’t rely solely on a visual inspection.

Paul’s also performs carbon monoxide testing as an additional safety check during the Furnace Restore process.

Because combustion and venting problems can create serious safety concerns, this testing provides another important layer of information about the operation of your heating system.

When it comes to your family’s comfort, safety is always the priority.

UPGRADE #1

High-Efficiency ECM Blower Motor

This is where Furnace Restore becomes much more than a deep cleaning.

Many older furnaces use traditional PSC (permanent split capacitor) blower motors. Newer furnace designs commonly use more energy-efficient electronically commutated motor technology.

For qualifying furnaces, Paul’s will replace the existing PSC blower motor with a compatible ECM blower motor upgrade designed to work with the existing furnace controls.

ECM technology can significantly reduce blower motor electricity consumption compared with older PSC motor technology, with actual savings depending on the equipment, operating conditions, airflow requirements, and amount of time the blower operates.

That means you can potentially gain some of the electrical-efficiency benefits of modern blower technology without replacing the entire furnace solely to upgrade the blower motor.

It’s a smarter motor inside the furnace you already own.

Glowing silicon nitride furnace ignitor 4
UPGRADE #2

Silicon Nitride Ignitor

A small component can be responsible for a very big inconvenience.

The hot surface ignitor is responsible for initiating combustion in many modern furnaces. Older-style ignitors can become increasingly fragile with age and eventually fail—often resulting in a furnace that won’t produce heat.

As part of the Furnace Restore Package on compatible equipment, Paul’s replaces the existing ignitor with an upgraded silicon nitride ignitor.

Silicon nitride ignitors are engineered for durability and provide an upgraded ignition solution compared with many older, more fragile ignitor designs.

Rather than waiting for an aging ignitor to fail on a cold winter night, Furnace Restore allows us to address this important component proactively.

Ask Paul’s about applicable manufacturer warranty coverage for the ignitor installed in your system.

Final System Performance Test

We don’t finish the job when the last component goes back into the furnace. We finish when we’ve tested the system.

After completing the cleaning, inspection, testing, and applicable upgrades, Paul’s cycles the furnace and performs a final operational evaluation.

We want to make sure the furnace is operating properly before Furnace Restore is considered complete.

Depending on the equipment, our technicians evaluate important operating measurements such as:

  • Temperature rise
  • Motor amperage
  • Ignition
  • Blower operation
  • Safety controls
  • Burner operation
  • Overall system performance

More Than a Furnace Tune-Up

A traditional furnace tune-up is important preventative maintenance. Furnace Restore is something different.

It’s designed for homeowners with aging equipment who want to take a more comprehensive approach to maintaining their existing furnace.

With one service, Furnace Restore combines:

  • Comprehensive Inspection
  • Deep Cleaning
  • Blower Cleaning
  • Burner Cleaning
  • Electrical Testing
  • Heat Exchanger Inspection
  • Carbon Monoxide Testing
  • ECM Motor Upgrade
  • Ignitor Upgrade
  • Final Performance Testing

It’s one of the most comprehensive services Paul’s offers for an existing furnace.

Is Furnace Restore Right for Your Furnace?

Furnace Restore can be an excellent option for certain older furnaces that are still fundamentally sound but could benefit from extensive cleaning, inspection, preventative service, and component upgrades.

It may be worth considering if:

  • Your furnace is getting older but you’re not ready to replace it.
  • Your blower assembly has years of accumulated dirt.
  • Your furnace still uses an older PSC blower motor.
  • You’re concerned about the condition of an aging heat exchanger.
  • You want your burners professionally removed and cleaned.
  • You want important electrical and safety components thoroughly tested.
  • You’d like to proactively replace an aging ignitor.
  • You want to get more from the furnace you already own.

Not every furnace will be a good candidate.

If our inspection uncovers significant safety issues, a compromised heat exchanger, extensive deterioration, or other major problems, we’ll explain what we find and help you evaluate whether repair or replacement makes more sense.

We won’t recommend investing in restoration when the condition of the furnace doesn’t justify it.

Frequently Asked Questions About Furnace Restore

Is Furnace Restore the same thing as a furnace tune-up?

No. A tune-up is routine preventative maintenance. Furnace Restore is a much more extensive service involving deeper inspection, component removal and cleaning, safety testing, and qualifying component upgrades.

Will Furnace Restore make my old furnace like new?

No service can make an aging furnace literally new. Components that aren’t replaced still have their existing age and operating history. Furnace Restore is designed to improve the condition of serviceable equipment through cleaning, inspection, testing, and targeted upgrades.

Can Furnace Restore extend the life of my furnace?

Proper maintenance, cleaning, and replacing worn or inefficient components can help reduce unnecessary stress on equipment. However, the remaining life of any furnace depends on its age, condition, installation, maintenance history, usage, and individual components, so Paul’s does not promise a specific extension in equipment life.

Will Furnace Restore lower my utility bill?

The ECM blower motor upgrade can reduce the electricity required to operate the blower compared with many older PSC motors. Actual household savings vary depending on the furnace, motor being replaced, system setup, operating hours, utility rates, and how the HVAC system is used.

Why clean the blower wheel?

Accumulated dirt changes the effective shape and performance of blower blades and can reduce airflow. Removing the blower assembly allows Paul’s to clean areas that are difficult to properly address while the assembly remains inside the furnace.

Why inspect the heat exchanger?

A damaged or compromised heat exchanger can create serious safety concerns. As furnaces age, inspection becomes increasingly important. Paul’s uses specialized equipment to inspect accessible portions of the heat exchanger and supplements the inspection with carbon monoxide testing.

What happens if you find a cracked heat exchanger?

If we identify evidence of a potentially unsafe heat exchanger condition, we’ll explain our findings and recommend appropriate next steps. Safety concerns must be addressed before continuing to operate affected equipment.

Why replace the blower motor if mine still works?

For qualifying systems with older PSC motors, the ECM upgrade is intended to provide more efficient blower motor technology while proactively replacing an aging component. Paul’s will determine whether the upgrade is compatible and appropriate for your furnace.

Why upgrade the ignitor before it fails?

Ignitors are wear components. Proactively replacing an older, more fragile ignitor with a compatible silicon nitride design can reduce the likelihood that the existing aging ignitor becomes the reason your furnace suddenly won’t heat.

Can every furnace receive the Furnace Restore Package?

No. Equipment compatibility and condition matter. Paul’s will evaluate your furnace to determine whether it is an appropriate candidate and whether the ECM motor and ignitor upgrades are compatible with your particular system.

Restore What You Have Before You Replace What You Have

An older furnace doesn’t automatically need to become tomorrow’s new furnace installation. Sometimes, it needs attention.

Paul’s Furnace Restore Package gives qualifying homeowners another option: thoroughly inspect the furnace, deep clean critical components, evaluate important safety systems, upgrade aging technology where appropriate, and test the completed system.

Before you decide your furnace’s best days are behind it, find out what condition it’s actually in.
